Walking alongside of you in order to provide counsel for how God meets you and for what He asks of you here.

Biblical counseling for the Colorado Front Range.

Distinctives:

Christ-centered counseling.
Trinity Church Denver launched the ministry of Lumen Counseling in 2023 because of their belief in the good news that Jesus’ reign changes everything. Our world plummets into darkness because of our separation from God. The only solution can be for God to redeem us. He promised that, for those who look to Him by faith, He would provide a way through pain and trouble.

Church-led counseling.
We believe that the bread & butter of one’s spiritual health comes from being a part of the local church. In the 19th century, when someone needed counseling, they would go to their pastor. Lumen’s counseling ministry exists to offer additional counseling support to one’s local church. It is our prayer that we can partner with numerous pastors and churches along the Colorado Front Range.

Biblical Worldview. There is a shortage of counselors who walk alongside of people with the right focus: (1) an accurate understanding of our ‘selves’, (2) love for God, (3) love for others. We humbly pursue the work of offering counsel that helps bring God’s will to life in each individual’s call to faithfulness.

Beliefs:

There is nothing so central to our ministry as the good news of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and reign. It is central to our own lives, to the counsel we give, and to our counselor training. Our prayer for you is that this good news about the good reign of Jesus would change your life forever.

Scripture gives a high bar for the character of a counselor. In that counseling is offering input for the well-being of one’s soul, we believe that the life of each of our counselors must exhibit Christian faith and virtue. While 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9 are written for authorities within the church, they are important traits for a biblical counselor to strive after.

We are a confessionally reformed counseling ministry. We adhere to the ancient creeds and confessions of the Christian church, and use historic church confessions as a summary of what our team believes and teaches. Each Lumen team member holds to at least of the following confessions:

  • The Westminster Confession of Faith (1647)

  • American Westminster Confession (1788)

  • The London Baptist Confession

  • The Three Forms of Unity

  • The Reformed Evangelical Confession

  • Second Helvetic Confession

  • Thirty-Nine Articles of Christian Religion

We believe that Jesus is winning. Darkness is being rolled back, the world is, even now, being renewed as Jesus reigns over it. This rolling back of darkness happens slowly. Often, we know this by faith rather than by sight. The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is renewing us, moving into every sphere of society, and wielding His people to teach the nations to love and obey everything that Jesus has commanded us. We want to help each counselee to believe this as true for themselves, for their families and for their community.

Marked by the joyful pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness. The key here is the question: By what standard? God teaches us an understanding of what is true, love what is beautiful and do what is good. Therefore, we study and submit to the Scriptures, humbly listen to the gifts God has given the church throughout her history, attend to the ongoing leadership of the Spirit, all the while marveling and studying the world God has surrounded us with. We will encourage the renewal of all cultures along these biblical and trinitarian lines.
